FOR SALE: 1986 LAND ROVER D 90 $29K OBO

Yes, it's official.  I'm selling my dream truck.  And I've only had her since January (not even six months).  Here's the story... I've been obsessing about Land Rover Defenders for about fifteen years, and I finally decided to pull the trigger on this import earlier this year because she's perfect. I live in LA, and most Defenders are too dolled up for me. I like things as close to the original as possible, and I found this 1986 Land Rover Defender 90 Station Wagon 2.5d in the UK and decided to import her with the help of the company that restored her to her original form.  The company is called Land Rovers UK... you can check 'em out.  They were very helpful when I decided to purchase their truck, and guaranteed everything including parts for six months.  They even told me they would hold my hand through the entire registration process and guaranteed I could get her registered.  Well, guess what, now they won't return my phone calls or emails, but I digress.  And that's precisely why I am selling her, I can't get her registered.  This Defender can be registered in all 49 states except California. I've spent countless hours at the DMV, verifying V.I.N. #'s at the CHP (everything checks out) and speaking with the enviornmental protection agency, and the bottom line is that California just began enforcing a CARB emissions line-item in their books (it's not even a LAW) on grey market vehicles from 1975 forward.  Anyway, I just don't have the patience any longer to go through the motions so I am hoping to find her a very good home for a loving family in one of the 49 states other than California.  I am into the truck for about $29,000 USD and I would love to get what I paid for her, but I will also consider best offers.  I drive her every single day and she runs flawlessly, and just about everyone smiles at you as you drive by. I'll attempt to post her every mood and angle below and tell you everything I know.  I have a temporary permit for her through the end of July so I am not in a huge rush to sell her, and if you want to come to California to drive her, please do.  Anyway, here we go...
The newest member of our family arrived in January...

Images are large, move them onto your desktop and zoom in!

I added seat belts to the rear seats after I got her, so legally seven people can ride in this D 90... three belts in front, four in rear.

Get out your mixed tapes from high school and roll down the windows!!!  This is one of her best features...

She's very comfortable in Topanga Canyon (just sayin')...

Haven't done much off-roading, but she's good on an incline...
I'm even providing an aerial shot!  Come on, how many car listings include a birds eye view???
The first thing I did when she cleared customs, was sent her up on a flatbed to Danny at Otto's Garage in Venice where I have been fixing my Discovery for the last decade. After giving her a good once-over and throwing back a six pack, we determined she was a keeper.  Danny actually marveled at her 2.5 diesel engine and said, "keep her well oiled and tuned up, and this thing will run forever"...
She fits in the shed!!!!
The kids took to the Defender like a play room from day one, hanging out in the garage more than the house...
 All our friends too!
 Dog Friendly!!!
And BIG IN JAPAN!!!
In California, the law states that car-seats must sit forward in a configuration such as this, so that means my son rides shotgun amusing all who pass us... he also has a lot to say about the mixed-tapes we choose...

 My better half in control...
I once got her up to 53 mph on a downhill (no joke)...

Speed Blur.
All your friends will want to drive her... this is my buddy Raul!
 Last Weekend's lineup...
Always on the lookout...
She comes to work with you...
Literally.  Likes PBR too... only the best.

Newest member of the family AND THE STUDIO!
This is LA after all, and she's quite comfortable on set!
Yes, I've spent a lot of time at the DMV... my first temporary -  MARCH!
 ...too much time...
I've got all the paperwork... 7501, 3461, DOT, EPA, Land Rover's UK invoice and V5!  And I've already verified with the CHP that the VIN matches...

This is the nice woman who I spent three hours with on my second visit to the DMV securing my follow-up temporary permit (MAY!!!) while she sent my original papers to Sacramento for approval...
And now I'm good through July after my third visit to the DMV, so come out and give her a drive!!!
As I mentioned, the Defender is absolutely flawless. The undercarriage looks almost brand new and she has a brand new paint job done by Land Rovers UK to the original color.  The only thing that needs to be fixed is the internal mechanics on the drivers side door...they are rusted. But I have already acquired another set of the wind-shield wiper mechanics and I will have them installed before I sell her.
...cheap labor.
Another great feature is that if you don't have a sitter, you can go out on date night still and leave the groms in the "playroom" just outside on the curb...
Shotgun on the left-hand side is a big hit at the In-N-Out drive through...
Perfect surf mobile even without racks (racks or a luggage cage would be key if you had the headroom where you park her)...
Perfect surf chaser even where waves do not exist...

 Internationally Renowned!

...wave magnet! (you'll have to trust me there's a little wave out there)
We'll miss her, but we've had a good ride!!!!  And we just want her to find a great home...

So that's it... the good, and the better (there really isn't any bad)!  I've thought about moving to another state for her, but alas our lives are in California so she needs to find a home with a nice family in a state nearby...  She's a romantic little ride that will bring you immense joy.  Serious inquiries email me at juanmas@thePOPstudio.com, and I can fill you in on any other details that you're curious about. And happy to send you more pictures as well...  29K OBO, and you'll have to pay for shipping. But I say you come out and give her a test drive and road trip her all the way home!!!
