Retail Therapy
OK, so I am a week late on this one, but the weekend before Thanksgiving, we checked out the Community Shop at Commune and the Shrimp Shop at South Willard. Retail is only interesting these days when you can flip the rules...

A Nice Thought going into the Holiday
THE RECESSION IS OVER...not sure if it's true, but accordingly to this correspondence (sent from a reliable source), the recession is over...let's just think very positively and circulate this idea regardless of market trends, so people start shopping!!! if we have a good holiday, it could kick things into gear for 2010! Come on people...

Yusuke's work is up for another week in the POP gallery - come have one last look and maybe pick up a piece for yourself...
and this little green grasshopper greeted Lennon and I on our way out the door to school this morning...perched cozily (is that a word?) on the front slider...I sort of dig his green exterior and the way it works into the color theory post below...

Fools Gold
i was walking down bleecker yesterday and I saw a stone roses poster in the window of a record shop - a sight so cool that it took me way back to the feeling of being very awkward, but musically so right. 20 years on...

The Love is Mutual...
I bumped into Russ while waiting inline this morning. He asked me how I was doing and I replied, "I'm as good as can be while running a business in a depression, having an 11 week old baby at home, and a girlfriend who is neglected." All that said, I look forward to seeing Hannah's flat white hit the counter every morning when I do my 7:30 mission to Intelligentsia. I heart you too...

Alma Allen, Heath Ceramics & Commune Design
My friends at Commune and Heath have been telling me about Alma Allen for a while now, so I am excited to see the collaboration between the three of them this Thursday night. I lifted these images and the text directly from Commune's design log: http://www.communedesign.com/design-log
"For the past few months we have been working on a collaboration with sculptor Alma Allen and Heath Ceramics. We wanted to bring together two of our favorite talents on a product incorporating wood and ceramic, that was unique, beautiful and practical - something you would love as you used it...all the time. The result is a series of 75 limited edition kitchen canisters. They are one of a kind, hand thrown at Heath in Sausalito, and glazed in custom dual glazes inspired by German ceramics from the Bauhaus. Each walnut top is unique in shape and custom carved on the lathe by Alma to accommodate the variations in the hand thrown canisters."
The project launches at Heath in Los Angeles on Thursday, November 5th. The pieces will be available through Heath and Commune's Community Shop in Los Angeles, starting November 21st.
